The internet has no idea how to discuss age
The whole millennial thing should have tipped me off
Today I realized almost every age-related social media post I’ve seen recently has been stupid.
I think I mentally started a file on this when I noticed odd articles about adults earning a variety of perfectly plausible salaries as if each story was big news. “This 25-year-old earns $100,000!” “This 27-year-old only earns $51,000!” Most are paired with some detail about their situation or something they’ve done with the money, and I found out that many are part of a series called “Millennial Money,” Jesus Christ, written by a series of contributors at CNBC.
Yes, adults are different, and they earn different amounts of money. For all the good story pitches I’ve had ignored by editors over the years, hey, God bless the folks getting paid to write up anyone under 40 with a job.
We’re not done with the “holy shit, a young person has done something” portion of our story.
Forbes is adding over 1,000 people “Under 30” per year, and somehow I still would have guessed it was more.
Let’s talk about 30 Under 30.
This may be a side effect of severe Twitter overuse, but I feel like more than half of its users claim to be on a 30 Under 30 list…
